“Air Balloon” · Halim A. Flowers · First Short Story, Age 7 (Oct 1987)

A childhood short story, written at seven and kept in mint condition for nearly forty years, registered as the foundational literary asset of the My First Time pilot. The market has never priced it — never licensed, never sold, never published. The ledger opens it at $48,000, and treats that as a floor.

02 — Asset Identity

The first thing he ever made.
Kept mint for forty years.

Reason. “Air Balloon” was written by Halim A. Flowers in October 1987, at the age of seven, as a second-grade writing exercise assigned by his teacher, Mrs. Rutherford, at Kingsman Elementary School in Washington, D.C. By his own account it is the first creative work he ever produced in any discipline — a child's foray into Afro-Futurism, imagining an escape from the harsh realities of the Crack era in the nation's capital. It is the origin point of an artistic life that now spans museum-grade fine art, permanent public sculpture, and elite institutional exhibition.

Copyright. The work has never been licensed, sold, contracted, self-published, or awarded. The author has affixed a copyright notice and is registering the work with the U.S. Copyright Office at the Library of Congress. The only exploitation to date is a spoken-word audio reading — the author narrating the story on the “Picking Flowers” podcast (Spotify), 3 min 25 sec, released under his artist name PAY A10$ION.

Custody. The original was returned to the artist by his teacher and kept by his mother, Darlene Flowers — laminated, in mint condition, in her file cabinet — for nearly four decades before she returned both the original and a copy to him last year. She served at the Library of Congress for more than thirty years and functioned as the de facto archivist of his written work. Twenty-two of those ~38 years, the artist was incarcerated; the archive survived intact regardless.

Provenance is a pricing input. A mint original with an unbroken forty-year chain of custody is the scarcest input a first work can carry — and it is currently kept in a file cabinet.

03 — CPRS Dimensional Scoring

Five dimensions. One fingerprint.

Day-0 baseline. Scores are analyst-assigned against first-party testimony (reason, copyright, custody) and documented credentials, not platform-verified. Bar length equals raw dimensional score.

Dimension Raw Weight Contribution
CIS · Cultural Influence Score
Limited independent circulation to date — one podcast reading and live-stage readings. Inherits authority from a confirmed Tier-3 author; the work's own footprint is nascent.
44.00.3013.20
CCI · Consumer Conversion Impact
No conversion history — zero products or licenses attached at Day 0. High latent potential via a marketable "first story" origin narrative, but unproven, so scored on impact only.
40.00.2510.00
LIP · Likeness & Identity Premium
Strong. Bound to the author's identity arc and his literal voice — he narrates it himself. Recognizable authorship authority; capped because a written work carries likeness indirectly.
58.00.2011.60
CUV · Commercial Usage Value
Low by design — never licensed or appropriated, so the framework's "usage-without-compensation" uplift does not apply. The inverse benefit: a fully unencumbered, all-rights-open position.
33.00.154.95
HLM · Heritage & Lineage Multiplier
Exceptional and defining. First-ever creative act; mint original; near-40-year single-custodian chain; Library of Congress family lineage; imminent federal registration. Expressed as a 2.5× licensing-premium uplift.
82.00.108.20
BCPV — BASE CULTURAL PROPERTY VALUE 47.95
Fingerprint Note · Tier Divergence

An 82 sitting inside a 47.95.

HLM at 82.0 is a Tier IV–grade dimension carried inside a Tier I asset. That shape matters: it is the signature of an asset whose heritage is already fully formed while its commercial surface is barely built. Compare the inverse fingerprint of a viral moment — high CIS, hollow HLM. This one is structurally the opposite, and structurally more durable. The composite score alone understates the asset; the provenance is the reason a $48,000 baseline is a floor, not a ceiling.

04 — Market Value Computation

From score to dollars.

The Cultural Demand Coefficient applies the framework's consumer-uplift constants (0.75 × 0.40) against the literary / spoken-word sector multiplier (3.0×), yielding 0.90. The Literary Value Unit is back-solved from the framework's Tier 1 Foundational band positioned at its upper boundary and heritage-adjusted (HLM 2.5×), for a fully auditable per-point figure.

Booked to Date

$0

The work has never earned a dollar in licensing, sale, or publishing. That is not a weakness — it is a clean title. Nothing to unwind, no prior grant to honor, no clouded chain.

Open Commercial Surface

$35K–$120K

Every category is available from a clean base — publishing, audio, adaptation, merchandise. The AI training-data license adds a further $96K–$240K (2–5× TCPMV), available and not yet booked.

100% of commercial surface open at Day 0

The work has earned nothing. That is the point of a Day-0 baseline — it is a clean title with every category still open, priced conservatively so the pilot can move it.

05 — Licensing Value Architecture

Every category open.
Priced conservative at Day 0.

Because the work carries no prior encumbrances, all commercial categories are available from a clean base. Ranges are Day-0 conservative and rise with completed registration and demonstrated demand.

License CategoryDay-0 RangeNotes
LITERARY / PUBLISHING $15K–$60K Print, anthology, and e-book rights to the first written work. Anchored by the "first story, age 7" narrative and clean chain of title.
SPOKEN-WORD / AUDIO $10K–$40K Proven. Author-narrated audio already live on the Picking Flowers podcast. Audiobook, sync, and platform-exclusive windows addressable now.
ADAPTATION / SCREEN $25K–$150K Option on the Afro-Futurist child's-eye narrative. Strong festival / documentary fit given the author's arc; priced as a forward category.
MERCHANDISE / CAPSULE 8–15% Royalty on net wholesale. Art-to-product bridge proven at the artist level. Annualized $10K–$60K per active partnership.
AI TRAINING-DATA $96K–$240K TCPMV × 2–5×, per dataset / per model, under the CPRS-governed permission framework. Available, not booked.
Priority Surface · AI & Synthetic Rights

A first story is a text corpus — and a voice.

The literary work is directly usable as training data for language and style models, and the author-narrated audio is a labeled voice corpus. Compounding factor: the narration already sits in a third-party podcast pipeline under terms almost certainly written as media-distribution grants, not data-rights instruments. Register the AI/data surface as a severable sub-property before any publishing or audio license is signed.

  • Text CorpusThe written story as training data for language / style models. No originator-side data-rights instrument on record.
  • VoiceAuthor-narrated audio on the Picking Flowers podcast. Distribution grants rarely exclude AI training — clause-level review required.
  • Persona"PAY A10$ION" and the "Air Balloon" title — coined identity, unregistered as marks, commercially active in audio.
  • NarrativeThe Afro-Futurist premise as adaptable, synthesizable IP. Derivative and synthetic-work exposure.

06 — Execution Constraint
Hard Gate · Registration & Provenance

This is a baseline, not a
registered record — yet.

The copyright notice is affixed, but federal registration at the U.S. Copyright Office / Library of Congress is in progress, not complete. Provenance and prior-rights statements are first-party testimony pending independent verification. Every downstream mechanic in this brief presumes those two items close.

  • RegistrationLOC / Copyright Office filing in progress. Complete and capture the registration number on the BCID record before representing this as a verified registry entry or releasing externally.
  • ProvenanceMint original and ~38-year custody chain are as represented by the originator. Obtain a condition report and photographic documentation to evidence the HLM 2.5×.
  • Chain of TitleA 1987 second-grade classroom assignment — confirm no residual school or institutional claim. Legally near-nil for a child's exercise, but document the clearance.
  • Audio GrantConfirm the Picking Flowers release carries no exclusive assignment that would cloud print or audiobook licensing.
  • PostureMADE CX registers the property and holds the ledger. The originator retains authorship; the pilot perfects the paperwork.

Practical read: the difficulty of perfecting a forty-year-old childhood work's paperwork is precisely why it sits unregistered. That difficulty is the moat.

07 — Forward Scenario Model

Partners are buying the
Day-90, not the Day-0.

The Day-0 baseline is deliberately conservative. The pilot is built to move it: registration, a first license, and audience conversion each carry the asset toward Tier 2. The table below is scenario-modeled and probability-weighted; weights are analyst estimates, not published figures.

Day-90 Scenario P TCPMV Weighted

09 — Verification & Sourcing

What we can stand behind,
and what we cannot.

This brief carries a 0.72 confidence factor. Sourcing is first-party: three recorded artist testimonies (reason, copyright, custody) plus publicly visible Spotify episode metadata and the prior MADE CX artist record. First-party, but not independently audited. This is a Day-0 baseline and must not be represented as a verified registry record until registration completes.

10 — Position

Every catalog begins with a
first work nobody wrote down.

A seven-year-old's first story, kept in mint condition for forty years, is not a modest asset. At Day 0 it is a Tier 1 Foundational property with the cleanest possible title, the strongest possible provenance, and the clearest path to Tier 2 in the pilot. The reason it has never been priced is the same reason it is rare: the paperwork on a childhood work is harder than a handshake.

“Air Balloon” is the foundational asset of the My First Time pilot — the first of six firsts. The audio is already live; the original is already mint; the copyright is already being perfected. The only question is whether the next chapter of its value settles against a ledger or evaporates into an anthology someone else controls.

The podcast is the floor.
The ledger is the ceiling.
