A poem painted on canvas — Halim's first painting, made in 2020, one year after his release from twenty-two years of incarceration. Never exhibited, never reproduced, never sold; held entirely within the artist's estate. Registered as Asset 02 of 06 in the My First Time pilot. The ledger opens it at $96,000 — under a self-imposed covenant that limits its use to education and the arts.
Reason. “Gray” is the first painting Halim A. Flowers ever made — created in 2020, during the pandemic quarantine, one year to the month after his release from twenty-two years of incarceration. By his own account he did not know how to draw or paint, so he painted his poetry. Prison, he says, had stripped him of any connection to bright color and left him fluent in the black-and-white of legal paperwork; the work begins there — half black field with white text, half white field with black text — a deliberate meditation on the gray area between absolutes, "the fine print beyond the bold print." The impromptu poem it carries engages the American dream and the American nightmare and a lineage of Black letters — Ellison, Du Bois, Hughes, Hansberry, and the "Strange Fruit" his grandfather first passed down to him.
Copyright & rights. The work has never been licensed, sold, or reproduced — no prints or reproductions of any kind exist. It has never been exhibited, loaned, written about, or photographed except privately by the artist. There has been no brand use in any context. Copyright subsists in the original from its 2020 creation; federal registration is recommended for enforcement. The work is registered on the MADE CX ledger (BCID) as Asset 02 of the pilot.
Custody. The painting is held in the artist's private collection and has never been in the possession of anyone outside his estate. It is standalone — not part of any series — signed, and pristine. Its provenance is therefore singular and unbroken from the moment of creation.
Intended use. The originator will license the work only to entities that use it for educational purposes in literature and the arts — to encourage children and young adults toward creative expression, and to equip arts institutions to present art as a technology for recording history and lived experience. No other commercial interest or context is contemplated. That covenant is detailed in §05 and shapes the entire value architecture.
A first painting that no one has ever seen is among the rarest things a ledger can hold — maximal scarcity, zero prior claim, and a use restriction that reads as conscience, not limitation.

|---|---|---|---|
CIS · Cultural Influence Score
Zero public circulation — never shown or photographed publicly. Offset by the artist's
museum-grade authority in his core discipline (painting) and the work's exceptional citational density,
engaging Ellison, Du Bois, Hughes, Hansberry and Holiday. Latent, not yet realized.
|
50.0 | 0.30 | 15.00 |
CCI · Consumer Conversion Impact
No conversion history. Real latent institutional and collector demand for a milestone first
painting, but conversion is deliberately narrowed by the originator's education-only use covenant (§05).
|
42.0 | 0.25 | 10.50 |
LIP · Likeness & Identity Premium
Very strong. The work is the artist's philosophy rendered in his own hand and signature — a
mature, post-incarceration identity thesis, not a childhood exercise. Deeply identity-bound.

64.0 | 0.20 | 12.80 |
CUV · Commercial Usage Value
Never licensed, sold, or appropriated; no brand use. The fine-art object class lifts intrinsic
value, but the education-only covenant deliberately caps commercial usage. The inverse benefit: unencumbered title.

HLM · Heritage & Lineage Multiplier
Exceptional. The artist's first painting; made one year after twenty-two years' incarceration; a
dense inherited lineage (grandfather → "Strange Fruit"; the Black literary canon); pristine estate custody.
Expressed as a 2.4× uplift factor.

As with the pilot's other assets, the fingerprint is heritage-heavy: an HLM at Tier-IV grade carried inside a Tier-II composite. Here the shape is even more deliberate — the commercial surface is not merely unbuilt, it is covenant-restricted by the artist's own choice. That makes the score a conservative floor: the heritage is fully formed, the identity premium is high, and the value that a museum or education partner will recognize sits above what an unrestricted market read would price.
The Cultural Demand Coefficient applies the framework's consumer-uplift constants (0.75 × 0.40) against the fine-art / visual sector multiplier (4.0×), yielding 1.20 — higher than the pilot's literary asset, reflecting a tangible fine-art object class. The Fine-Art Value Unit is back-solved from the framework's Tier II band, entry position, for an auditable per-point figure.
The work has never earned a dollar — no sale, license, print, or brand use. Nothing to unwind, no prior grant to honor. A completely clean, unencumbered title.
The commercial surface is available only through the educational-use covenant (§05): schools, museums, arts-education nonprofits, and scholarly partners. The AI / dataset extension adds a further $192K–$480K (2–5× TCPMV), permissioned and covenant-bound — available, not booked.
The number is deliberately conservative. A single museum or education license — the only kind this work permits — is what converts the covenant from a limit into a premium.
This asset carries a binding restriction set by the originator: it may be licensed only to entities that use it for educational purposes in literature and the arts — first, to encourage children and young adults toward creative expression; second, as a tool for arts institutions to present art as a technology for recording history and lived experience. Brand, advertising, and merchandising use are excluded in every context. The covenant is not a footnote; it is the asset's value architecture, and a trust signal to exactly the institutions most likely to license it.
| Eligible License Category | Day-0 Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION | $25K–$90K | Schools, universities, curricula and classroom programs in literature and the arts. |
| MUSEUM / CULTURAL INSTITUTION | $40K–$180K | Institutional exhibition & study license tied to arts-education programming. The core pathway. |
| ARTS-EDUCATION NONPROFIT | $15K–$75K | Foundations and youth arts programs advancing creative expression. Mission-aligned. |
| SCHOLARLY / EDUCATIONAL PUBLISHING | $10K–$50K | Textbooks, journals, and educational anthologies. Reproduction strictly scoped to the covenant. |
| AI / DATASET — RESEARCH & ED | $192K–$480K | Permissioned, covenant-bound; educational and research models only. Available, not booked. |
| BRAND / ADVERTISING / MERCH | NOT ELIGIBLE | Excluded by covenant in all contexts. Non-negotiable and durable across resale and sublicense. |
The work is usable as training data for language, style, and vision models, and its imagery is exposed to synthetic reproduction. Under the covenant, however, any AI or dataset license is restricted to educational and research use and must be individually permissioned. Register $HALIM.AI as a severable, covenant-bound sub-property before any dataset conversation opens.
The asset is registered on the ledger, but the education-only restriction that defines its value is only as strong as the paper behind it. Every downstream mechanic in this brief presumes the covenant is written as a binding, durable rider that survives resale and sublicense — and that the never-public status of the work is managed as a deliberate, revocable disclosure.
Practical read: the covenant is the moat. It narrows the buyer set to the institutions best able to steward the work — and makes the license that does close far more defensible.
The Day-0 baseline is conservative and covenant-constrained by design. The pilot's Week-2-to-Day-90 arc turns on papering the covenant and landing one institutional license. The table is scenario-modeled and probability-weighted; weights are analyst estimates, not published figures.
| Day-90 Scenario | P | TCPMV | Weighted |

The heritage is already complete. The covenant is the moat. One institutional license is the whole proof — and it is the only kind this work permits.

Eighty percent to the originator, sixteen to MADE CX for infrastructure, compliance and enforcement, four to community reinvestment. Applied automatically to every commercial transaction, logged and auditable.
1 — Paper the educational-use covenant as a durable, enforceable license rider.
2 — Complete U.S. Copyright Office registration.
3 — Commission a condition report and controlled documentation of the original.
4 — Open one museum or education license — the only category this work permits.
This brief carries a 0.71 confidence factor. Sourcing is first-party: the artist's recorded testimony (reason and concept), the artist-provided image of the work, and the artist-reported provenance and intended-use representations, plus the prior MADE CX artist record. First-party, not independently audited.
Most cultural property is priced after the market has already handled it. “Gray” is the opposite: a first painting, made at the exact hinge between twenty-two years lost and a life rebuilt, that has never been shown, sold, or copied — and that its maker will only place where it can teach. That is not a smaller asset. It is a cleaner one, with a conscience written into its title.
It is Asset 02 of the My First Time pilot — Week 2 of 6. It is registered. The covenant is defined; the work is pristine; the copyright is perfecting. The only question is whether the institutions best suited to steward it meet it now, on the ledger, or wait for a market that was never invited.
The covenant is the value.
The ledger is the vault.
