02 — Asset Identity

He founded a publishing company
in a prison law library.

Reason. In December 2002 an older man named Marvin Blunt-Bey, a member of the Moorish Science Temple of America, asked Halim Flowers whether he wanted to enter a spoken-word contest the Temple was hosting inside USP Lewisburg. Flowers had been writing poetry for young women to bring to visits. He entered, and read a poem called I Walk With Them — a roll call of Che Guevara, Ho Chi Minh, Mao Tse-tung and Patrice Lumumba. The older men in the room had not known he read that kind of literature. They told him to write a book. He was twenty-one years old, serving two life sentences for a crime he says he did not commit, in a high-security federal penitentiary he describes as full of drug lords, bank robbers and gang leaders from Chicago, New Orleans, Houston, New York and Los Angeles. The book is what came out of that room.

Where it was written. Shortly after the contest, staff found knives in his cell and he was moved to the Special Housing Unit for roughly sixty days. Most of the book was written there. The disciplinary sanction cost him his phone, his visits and his commissary for a year, so there was no way to send anything out except on paper: he wrote it by hand, had it typed up, and mailed it to his mother. There was no inmate email then. He completed it in the spring of 2003 and says he still has a copy of the original handwritten notes — a holograph stratum that §04 prices and §06 gates.

What it is. A collection of poetry — roughly forty poems across eighty pages — but not only that. Before each poem, Flowers writes a passage about what he was going through when he wrote it. That structure makes the book a hybrid object: a poetry collection carrying its own running memoir, composed contemporaneously with the events it annotates. For a registry, that matters. A poem is a literary work; a dated first-person account of solitary confinement written from inside solitary confinement is also a primary historical document, and the two strands license to different buyers at different prices.

The title, and the book behind it. He named it A Reason to Breathe because, in his words, the system was smothering him. The second book he wrote was called Buried Alive. The pair is deliberate: the dedication printed in the front of this one ends “In spite of everything, this life gives me a reason to breathe,” and he describes the book as a testament to himself, his family and the world that he would not let the system or any of its stakeholders convince him to give up on his humanity. The stated model is George Jackson — after reading Jackson's prison letters (Soledad Brother; rendered in the transcript as “Solitaire Brother”), Flowers says he had to show the world he had something of value to say too, and that he was not a menace to society or a super predator. He wanted to reclaim the narrative about himself before anyone else finished writing it.

How it got published. He had no idea how to publish a book. In the law library he met Michael Norwood — known as Minka, from Newark, New Jersey — and Tyrone Hines. Both men ran their own publishing companies from inside the prison and had already put books out. Norwood gave him the mechanism: once you purchase your ISBN numbers, you are technically an independent publishing house. Flowers bought his, and named the company SATO Publications — S.A.T.O., an acronym for Struggle Against The Odds, registered to 3939 Clay Place NE, Washington DC. That imprint is a separate registrable asset and §08 gives it its own line. It is also the first business Halim Flowers ever founded, and he founded it while serving two life sentences.

The edit. His mother worked at the Library of Congress. A colleague of hers named Annie edited the book — and, per the originator, went on to edit several of the books he wrote while incarcerated. He shouts her out by name in the testimony. Her surname is not on the registry file, and §06 asks for a short confirmation letter: editing is not authorship, but a twenty-one-year-old title with a live commercial listing should not have an unidentified editorial contributor in its history.

Print and circulation. Printed in 2005 in an initial run of five hundred copies. The copy photographed for this brief carries Second Printing 2007 on its imprint page — a reprint is the single strongest conversion signal on the pilot ledger, because presses do not run twice on unsold stock. When direct-to-consumer distribution arrived, Flowers uploaded the manuscript to Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing in 2013, where it remains for sale today in paperback and digital editions under the same ISBN he bought inside Lewisburg. Unit sales, royalty statements and the second-printing quantity were not reported to the registry.

Rights. Per the originator: he holds all the copyrights. There were no co-writers. Same ISBN numbers as originally issued. No publisher, no agent, no literary estate arrangement, no anthology licence, no audiobook, no option. This is the cleanest title chain in the six-asset pilot — there is no producer question as there is on the album, and no second author as there is on the album cover. The open questions are narrower and are set out in §06: the photographer, the editor, the holograph, and one ISBN check digit.

Intended use. Educational purposes; alignment with the conservation of African-American history and Black culture; and any objective meeting the mission statement, goals and objectives of the Artonomics initiative. §05 prices that surface. He adds one line the registry records verbatim as the closing note on the whole pilot: “It was my first book, and a lot of people felt like it was my best.”

He could not make a phone call, could not take a visit and could not buy a stamp from commissary. He wrote a book instead, and incorporated a publisher to carry it.

Dedication page of A Reason to Breathe
Exhibit A · Dedication Page · A Reason to Breathe The book's own statement of origin, printed in the front matter: “This book is a reflection of my struggle within these walls. I write from the perspective of a young man isolated from a human life since sixteen. However, being placed in solitary opened me to the universe within and inspired me to live, even amongst the steel bars, barb wire fences, brick walls, gun towers, and life sentences. In spite of everything, this life gives me a reason to breathe.” This page is why the registry treats the volume as a primary document and not only as a literary work. Originator-supplied.
Front cover of A Reason to Breathe
Exhibit B · Front Cover Trade paperback cover. Metallic display type over a blue-toned photographic study of a figure's back and shoulder. Cover line: “this poet only sees an ever-illuminating sun waiting patiently for the dark clouds to pass” — drawn from the back-cover copy. Byline: Halim A. Flowers. Photographer and designer unidentified on the registry file (§06).
Interior title page of A Reason to Breathe
Exhibit C · Title Page & Imprint Interior title page, with the imprint page showing through the leaf: Published by Struggle Against the Odds (S.A.T.O.), 3939 Clay Place NE, Washington DC; ISBN 13: 978-0-9778318-0-7; Printed in the USA; Second Printing 2007. The photograph shows the author in institutional whites holding a portfolio. This typographic treatment differs from Exhibit B and may indicate a distinct printing (§06).
Back cover of A Reason to Breathe
Exhibit D · Back Cover & ISBN Publisher's copy: “These poems are about contentment, appreciation, and hope. Even though the author has been an outcaste from society, he still writes with gratitude for all existence has to offer…” Barcode reads ISBN 0-9778318-0-7 with EAN 9 780977 831807. The 13-digit form validates; the printed 10-digit form does not. §06 explains why, and why it is a small-press artifact rather than a defect in title.

03 — CPRS Dimensional Scoring

Five dimensions. One fingerprint.

Day-0 baseline. Scores are analyst-assigned against the originator's recorded testimony, four photographs of the physical artifact including the imprint page and ISBN barcode, the live retail listing, and the prior MADE CX artist record. Bar length equals raw dimensional score. Calibration reference: Air Balloon 47.95, Gray 51.40, My First Museum Photograph 62.80, My First Sneaker Design 59.00, My First Album 56.80.

DimensionRawWeightContribution
CIS · Cultural Influence Score
The origin document of everything else in the pilot, and the longest-serving asset on the ledger — twenty-one years in continuous commerce and thirteen years of global retail availability. It launched an imprint that still exists and a writing practice that produced further books. Against that: no reported sales, no reviews on file, no awards, no library holdings confirmed, no academic citation supplied. Influence here is documented origination and duration, not evidenced reach.
54.00.3016.20
CCI · Consumer Conversion Impact
The strongest conversion evidence in the pilot and still not a number. Five hundred copies were printed in 2005 and the artifact in hand carries a 2007 second printing — a press does not run twice on unsold stock, which makes sell-through an inference from a printed fact rather than a representation. Thirteen further years of retail listing sit on top. Per standing principle, a print run is throughput, not settled sales; the reprint is credited, the absence of a royalty statement is discounted.
52.00.2513.00
LIP · Likeness & Identity Premium
Below the album's voice score and above everything else. The author's name carries the imprint and the byline; two photographic portraits of him appear on the covers and title page; the dedication is a signed first-person identity claim written at twenty-one. The holograph adds a handwriting corpus that exists nowhere else in the pilot. Text carries less identity than thirty-four minutes of isolated vocal — but this is the document where the public identity “Halim A. Flowers, author” begins.
64.00.2012.80
CUV · Commercial Usage Value
The highest CUV in the pilot, on the simplest facts: sole author, no co-writers, all copyrights held, owned ISBN block, own imprint, and a live transactable product with twenty-one years of trading history. There is no producer to sign and no co-author to locate. Held down by the education-and-culture covenant, by zero sub-rights ever exploited — no audiobook, no anthology, no translation, no option, no course adoption — and by an unconfirmed federal copyright registration.
58.00.158.70
HLM · Heritage & Lineage Multiplier
The highest heritage score in the pilot. A holograph composed in solitary confinement by a twenty-one-year-old serving two life sentences; an explicit, originator-stated descent from George Jackson's prison letters into the canon of Black carceral authorship; a transmission chain running through two incarcerated publishers in a prison law library; an originating performance at a Moorish Science Temple gathering; a poem naming Lumumba, Ho Chi Minh, Che and Mao; an edit performed by a Library of Congress staffer; and an imprint named Struggle Against The Odds founded from a cell. Expressed as a 2.9× uplift factor.
92.00.109.20
BCPV — BASE CULTURAL PROPERTY VALUE59.90
Boundary Note · One Tenth of a Point

The pilot's most heritage-dense object
misses Tier II by 0.10.

Tier II begins at 60.00. This asset scores 59.90. The registry publishes the composite as the framework computes it and does not round into a better tier, so A Reason to Breathe is recorded at the top of Tier III with the margin stated openly.

It is worth naming exactly what the missing tenth is made of. HLM is 92.0 — the highest in six assets — and CUV is 58.0, also the highest. The two dimensions holding the composite down are CIS at 54.0 and CCI at 52.0, and both are suppressed for the same reason they were suppressed on the album: nobody has pulled the numbers. Twenty-one years of print and retail history exist as statements in an account somewhere. A single KDP sales export and a copy of the 2007 print invoice would move CCI several points on evidence, and one library-holdings search would move CIS. The distance between Tier III and Tier II on this asset is an afternoon of retrieval, not a decade of reputation.

Fingerprint Note · Heritage Over an Unmeasured Base

Clean title, deep lineage, no dashboard.

The shape is a heritage-and-ownership spike over an unevidenced commercial base — the same profile as the album, but with the ownership question already answered. Where Asset 05 was suppressed by an unpapered producer, Asset 06 has no counterparty at all: one author, one imprint, one ISBN, twenty-one years. That makes this the most immediately licensable object in the pilot and the one whose score is most improvable with paperwork already in existence.

To artists: this is what your earliest work looks like on a ledger — the thing you made before anyone was watching usually carries the highest heritage score and the emptiest evidence file, and both of those facts are worth money. To buyers: the dimension you would license against is not suppressed here by a rights dispute. It is suppressed by a covenant and by three missing documents.

04 — Market Value Computation

From score to dollars.

The Cultural Demand Coefficient applies the framework's consumer-uplift constants (0.75 × 0.40) against a sector multiplier. The framework publishes no dedicated Publishing or Literary multiplier. The nearest listed sector is Music + Entertainment at 3.0×, and it is adopted here, yielding a CDC of 0.90. The choice is deliberately conservative: the manuscript-and-text corpus is a language-model training surface, which would route through Tech / AI Data at 4.5× and add roughly fifty percent to the baseline. That surface is held out as a sub-property in §05 and §08 rather than loaded into the headline number. The Published-Work Value Unit is back-solved from the pilot's Tier III band at a position the twenty-one-year trading history and sole authorship support, for an auditable per-point figure.

PUBLISHED TEXT$72,000 ~40 poems and the prose apparatus that introduces each one. Sole authorship, no co-writers, all copyrights held. Carries the anthology, translation, audiobook and dramatic surfaces, none of which has ever been licensed.
HOLOGRAPH STRATUM$40,000 The handwritten composition, written in the Special Housing Unit and mailed out under sanction. The most acquisition-ready object in the pilot for a special-collections buyer. Priced conservatively pending confirmation that the surviving papers are the original rather than a photocopy (§06); if the original survives, this line is materially understated.
SATO PUBLICATIONS IMPRINT$32,000 The publishing house itself, its name and the ISBN block — a business founded from inside a federal penitentiary and still the imprint of record twenty-one years later. Registered here rather than absorbed into the book, because it is capable of carrying other titles.
COVER & PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY$21,000 Cover design, cover line and two photographic portraits of the author. The most exposed line in the allocation: the photographer is unidentified on the registry file, and §06 treats that as the asset's primary gate.
REGISTERED PROPERTY$165,000 Registered as one property with four severable strata. The text and the holograph should be licensed together wherever an archive is the counterparty — the manuscript is what makes the printed book a document rather than a title.
Booked to Date

Not disclosed

Two print runs and thirteen years of retail royalties, on terms and in amounts the originator has not reported to the registry. This is the longest-earning asset in the pilot and the registry cannot yet print the figure. The surface is education, Black historical conservation and Artonomics (§05). The lower bound assumes the photography is third-party-owned and the covenant is read strictly; the upper bound assumes the photographer is resolved, federal copyright registration completes, the holograph is confirmed original and deposited, and one curriculum or archive licence executes.

Education, history & cultural preservation only · not for sale

This is an assessed cultural-property and license value under the CPRS, not a rare-book appraisal, not a backlist-acquisition multiple, and not an offer. Nothing here estimates what a publisher would pay for the copyright. The originator is not selling it.

05 — Use Covenant & Licensing Surface

Owned outright since 2003.
Opened for the classroom and the archive.

The originator's instruction: use permitted for educational purposes; in alignment with the conservation of African-American history and Black culture; and for any objective meeting the mission statement, goals and objectives of the Artonomics initiative. Read against the object, this covenant points somewhere the earlier five assets did not. A poetry collection written in solitary confinement, with a prose apparatus dating each poem to the conditions that produced it, is curriculum material for carceral education, creative-writing programmes and American history teaching — and it is acquisition material for a special-collections library. Those are the two doors this covenant opens widest.

Eligible Use CategoryDay-0 RangeNotes
ARCHIVE / SPECIAL COLLECTIONS$18K–$75K Deposit or acquisition of the holograph, a first-printing copy, the 2007 reprint and the imprint records by a Black cultural, carceral-history or university special-collections archive. The highest-value door in this table and the one most aligned with the covenant's own words. Contingent on §06 holograph custody.
ARTONOMICS / CARCERAL EDUCATION$22K–$85K The covenant's first purpose. Text and reproduction licensing to prison education programmes, reentry curricula, juvenile-justice and creative-writing programmes. The prose apparatus is what makes it teachable: each poem arrives with its own account of the conditions that produced it.
ANTHOLOGY & EDUCATIONAL REPRINT$15K–$60K Individual poems into anthologies of Black poetry, prison writing and American literature; classroom course packs; museum and exhibition catalogues. Per-poem licensing is the standard unit and no poem has ever been licensed.
AUDIOBOOK — AUTHOR-NARRATED$12K–$48K Does not exist and should. The author is the only correct narrator, the registry already holds his voice as a registered strand under Asset 05, and an author-narrated edition of a book written in solitary confinement is a distinct work, not a format conversion.
DOCUMENTARY / DRAMATIC READING$10K–$40K Text and reading rights for documentary, museum film and staged readings. Several tracks from Asset 05 are already cut into the originator's unreleased documentary; the book is the written source layer of the same life.
TRADE REPUBLICATION / FILM & TVRESERVED Commercial trade republication, foreign rights and dramatic adaptation are not within the current covenant. Recorded as reserved rather than closed. Any opening should be a written amendment scoped by term, territory and use.
SALE OF COPYRIGHT OR IMPRINTNOT OFFERED Neither the copyright nor SATO Publications is for sale. Any market reference in this brief is a valuation reference, never an offer.
Information Only · The Reserved Column

What a trade edition would be, and why it is not open today.

A twenty-one-year-old, fully owned, single-author prison poetry collection by a writer who has since become an internationally exhibited artist is a live trade-republication object: introduction by a contemporary writer, facsimile pages from the holograph, new afterword. At this author's profile the trade and foreign-rights surface models in the $45K–$160K range over a multi-year term, before any adaptation outlier. It is recorded as reserved because the covenant as given is educational and conservational, and because a trade deal is the one transaction that would put a publisher between the author and the copyright he has held alone since 2003. If that door opens, it should open on the ledger with the 80/16/4 standard attached and the copyright unassigned.

Priority Surface · AI & Synthetic Rights — The Corpus May Already Be Gone

Every asset before this one faced
a future exposure. This one faces a past one.

Assets 01 through 05 carry prospective AI risk: a voice that could be cloned, an image that could be trained on. Asset 06 is different in kind. This is a text corpus that has been distributed through a major retail e-book channel since 2013. Book-corpus datasets assembled for language-model training have drawn on exactly that distribution surface and that period. Whether this specific title was swept has not been checked, and it should be — the registry does not assert that it was. But the correct posture is that this is the one asset in the pilot where the AI question may be retrospective rather than preventive, and where the first action is a search, not a licence.

There is a second corpus here that no dataset has: the holograph. Handwriting is biometric and a bound manuscript in a single hand is a handwriting model in finished form. It has never been digitised, never been deposited and never been scanned. It is the only strand in the six-asset pilot that is provably still outside every dataset on earth, and it should be registered before it is photographed.

  • Text Corpus~40 poems plus prose apparatus, single author, retail-distributed since 2013. Run a training-data provenance search against the known book corpora before granting any text licence. Grantable by the originator alone.
  • Holograph / HandwritingBound manuscript in one hand, never digitised. Highest-value, lowest-exposure strand in the pilot. Register and hash before any scanning, and attach a no-training covenant to any archive deposit.
  • Author VoiceAn author-narrated audiobook would create a new vocal corpus. It should be produced under the $HALIM.AI voice instrument established at Asset 05, not under a standard audiobook agreement.
  • PortraitsTwo photographic likenesses on the covers. Not grantable as data until the photographer is identified (§06).

06 — Execution Constraint
Primary Gate · Two Photographs and a Manuscript

The words are unambiguously his.
The pictures and the papers are not yet documented.

This is the cleanest title in the pilot and the gates are correspondingly narrow. The originator wrote every word, holds every copyright, has no co-writers and owns the imprint. Nothing in §06 disturbs that. What §06 does is name the three items attached to the book that the registry cannot yet stand behind — the photography, the holograph, and the federal registration — plus one identifier anomaly that will surface the first time a library or distributor runs the number. All four are cheap to close and all four are cheaper to close now than during a transaction.

  • Cover & Portrait PhotographyThe controlling item. Two photographic portraits of the author appear on this book — one on the front and back covers, one on the interior title page — and neither photographer is identified on the registry file. A photograph is a separate copyright owned by whoever pressed the shutter, and a 2002–05 institutional setting raises the further question of who that was and under what conditions. Identify the photographer and obtain a written licence or assignment. Until that is done, the $21,000 photography line in §04 is a representation, and the covers should be reproduced as documentation of this registration rather than licensed onward.
  • Holograph — Original or CopyThe originator says he “still has a copy of the original handwritten notes.” The registry reads that phrase literally and cannot tell from it whether the surviving papers are the original manuscript or a photocopy. The distinction is the whole §04 holograph line: an original holograph written in a Special Housing Unit is an archival acquisition object; a photocopy is documentation of one. Confirm which exists, where it is physically held, and in what condition. If the original survives, insure it and do not ship it.
  • Federal Copyright RegistrationAn ISBN is not a copyright. This distinction matters more to an artist audience than any other line in this brief: purchasing ISBN numbers made Flowers a publisher, exactly as he was told in the law library, but it registered nothing with the U.S. Copyright Office. Confirm whether the text was ever registered. If it was not, register it now — copyright exists from fixation, but registration is what makes it enforceable in federal court and what unlocks statutory damages, and this title has been publicly available for twenty-one years.
  • ISBN-10 Check DigitThe imprint page carries ISBN 13: 978-0-9778318-0-7, which validates correctly, and the EAN barcode 9 780977 831807 matches it. The barcode's printed 10-digit form, 0-9778318-0-7, does not validate — a standard ISBN-10 check on the root 0-9778318-0 returns 9, not 7. The pattern is a known small-press artifact: the 13-digit number was truncated by dropping the 978 prefix without recomputing the check digit. It does not affect title, and the 13-digit ISBN is the operative identifier everywhere that matters today. Reconcile the record with Bowker so that library cataloguing and any future distributor lookup resolve cleanly against the 10-digit form.
  • Editor Confirmation“Annie,” a colleague of the author's mother at the Library of Congress, edited this book and several others. Surname not on file. Editing is not authorship and no claim is anticipated, but obtain her full name and a short confirmation-of-services letter. Establish that the work was performed privately and personally rather than in any institutional capacity, so the record is unambiguous.
  • Edition ReconciliationExhibit B and Exhibit C carry materially different typographic treatments of the same title. That is consistent with a designed trade cover over a plainer interior title page, and equally consistent with two distinct printings. Reconcile the 2005 first printing against the 2007 second printing: cover design, page count, pagination and any textual revision. Record which printing the photographed copy represents.
  • Print Run RecordsFive hundred copies in 2005 per testimony; the 2007 second printing quantity is unreported. Obtain both printer invoices. These two documents are the evidentiary basis for the CCI score and the cheapest points available on the whole composite.
  • KDP Account TermsThe 2013 upload placed the book into Amazon's distribution under an account with terms. Confirm the exclusivity election — KDP Select grants Amazon exclusive digital rights for its term, which would close the anthology and educational-reprint doors in §05 for the digital edition. Retrieve the settlement history in the same session.
  • SATO Entity StatusConfirm whether SATO Publications / Struggle Against the Odds was ever formally incorporated, its current standing, and the registrant of record on the ISBN block. The imprint is registered as a $32,000 line in §04 and as its own ticker in §08; it should have a legal existence to match.
  • Content Reconciliation“About forty poems” in eighty pages per the originator. Obtain the table of contents for a title-level inventory — per-poem anthology licensing is the standard unit in §05 and cannot be priced without it. Confirm that I Walk With Them, the contest poem, is among them.
  • Transcription VarianceThe testimony renders George Jackson's Soledad Brother as “Solitaire Brother” and the Moorish Science Temple member as “Blunt Bay”; Moorish Science Temple members conventionally take the suffix Bey or El, so “Marvin Blunt-Bey” is the probable spelling. Both are recorded as corrected readings, not as findings. Confirm before any public use of the names.
  • MitigantSole author, no co-writers, all copyrights held, own imprint, own ISBN. There is exactly one signature that matters on the text, and it has already registered. No asset in this pilot has a shorter path to a clean grant.
  • MitigantThe book is externally verifiable in a way no other pilot asset is. A physical artifact exists, carries a validating ISBN-13 and a printed imprint line, and is listed for sale at a public retailer. The registry read the imprint page directly rather than taking it from testimony.
  • PostureMADE CX discloses the photography gap, the holograph ambiguity, the unconfirmed federal registration and the ISBN-10 anomaly at Day-0, before any counterparty conversation. Disclosed risk is priced risk.

Practical read: nothing here blocks the covenant. Archive and curriculum conversations under §05 may proceed today on the text alone, because the text is unambiguously his. Instruct General Counsel (ARS Counsel P.C.) to complete U.S. Copyright Office registration for the text, identify and paper the photographer, and confirm the SATO entity position. Confirm the holograph custody in person, not by phone. Reconcile the ISBN-10 with Bowker in the same pass. Nothing in this brief constitutes legal advice.

Secondary · Twenty-One Years of Statements Nobody Has Opened

This is the longest-earning asset in the pilot
and the thinnest evidence file.

Two printer invoices, one KDP settlement history and one library-holdings search are the entire difference between a composite built on testimony and a composite built on documents. The 0.71 confidence factor already credits the photographed artifact and the validating ISBN; those four retrievals would likely take it past 0.78 and move CIS and CCI in the same step — which is, precisely, the tenth of a point between this asset and Tier II. It is the most valuable hour available to the pilot, and it is the last one the pilot has left.

07 — Forward Scenario Model

The upside is a registration
and an archivist's phone call.

The Day-90 path for this asset does not depend on an audience, a counterparty negotiation, or a dispute. It depends on registering a text the author has owned alone for twenty-three years, confirming where a manuscript physically is, and opening one conversation with an institution whose collecting mandate this object was made for. The table is scenario-modeled and probability-weighted; weights are analyst estimates, not published figures.

Registration complete, photography resolved, holograph located and documented, sales history on file; institutional interest and inbound, no licence executed yet. The most likely single outcome.
33%$220K$72.6K
REGISTERED, QUIET
Copyright filed and the ISBN reconciled, but the photographer, the holograph and the dashboards are not retrieved inside the window. Held at baseline.
32%$165K$52.8K
PHOTO / HOLOGRAPH ADVERSE
The photographer is unlocatable or asserts a claim, and the surviving manuscript proves to be a photocopy. Text, imprint and heritage value hold; the photography and holograph lines are written down.

Fifty-three percent of the probability mass is bought with a copyright filing and a photographer's name. The adverse case still prints $105K, because he wrote every word and owns every one of them.

08 — Registrable Rights Inventory

What is on the ledger.

TickerPropertyRationale
$HALIMParent — artist identity, likeness, voice, persona, works umbrella Umbrella registration. All six pilot works and their sub-properties roll up to this record. With Asset 06 the parent is complete.
MFBAsset 06 — A Reason to Breathe, the registered property (this brief) “My First Book.” Registered as one property with four severable strata. The education, Black-historical-conservation and Artonomics covenant attaches here and travels with every grant.
MFB.TEXT~40 poems and prose apparatus · ISBN 978-0-9778318-0-7 The literary work. Complete a U.S. Copyright Office registration and build a per-poem title inventory; anthology licensing is priced per poem and cannot be quoted without one.
MFB.MSHolograph — the handwritten composition, 2002–03 The archive object and the reproduction control point. Hash and deposit an archival record. Confirm original-versus-copy status before any valuation is relied upon (§06).
MFB.IMPRINTSATO Publications / Struggle Against the Odds · ISBN block A publishing house founded inside a federal penitentiary and still the imprint of record. Capable of carrying other titles, which is why it registers separately from the book.
MFB.COVERCover design, cover line and two author portraits Registered with the photographic copyright flagged as unresolved. Do not grant this stratum until the photographer is identified and papered.
$HALIM.AIText corpus and handwriting corpus — covenant-bound Severable sub-property, extended from Asset 05. The text strand requires a provenance search before grant; the handwriting strand is clean and should be registered before the manuscript is ever scanned.
$SATOProposed — imprint as an independent registrable property Recommended for separate registration. Twenty-one years of continuous use, a founding story that is itself an asset, and a name that can carry future titles by other authors.

Four moves this week

1 — File U.S. Copyright Office registration for the text. It has been unregistered and publicly available for twenty-one years.
2 — Confirm in person whether the surviving manuscript is the original or a photocopy, and where it is held.
3 — Identify the photographer of both portraits and obtain a written licence or assignment.
4 — Open one special-collections or carceral-education conversation — permitted use, available now.

Sequenced so the gate never blocks the pathway that is already open
09 — Verification & Sourcing

What we can stand behind,
and what we cannot.

This brief carries a 0.71 confidence factor — the second-highest in the pilot, behind Asset 03's 0.76 and ahead of Asset 05's 0.66. It is higher than the album because the registry examined the object itself. Four photographs of the physical book were supplied and read directly: the front cover, the back cover with its EAN barcode, the interior title page with the imprint block showing through the leaf, and the dedication page. The imprint, the publisher's address, the ISBN-13, the “Printed in the USA” line and the Second Printing 2007 notice were read off the artifact rather than taken from testimony. The ISBN-13 was independently check-digit validated and passes. The dedication text was transcribed from the page.

It is lower than the museum photograph because the value-bearing facts — sales history, holograph custody, photographic authorship, federal registration status and the KDP account position — remain first-party and untested against any document. Sourcing: one recorded testimony session; four originator-supplied photographs of the physical artifact; independent validation of the printed identifiers; and the prior MADE CX artist record. No printer invoice, KDP statement, copyright record, library holdings search or photographer agreement has been reviewed.

10 — Position

Six weeks, six firsts.
The last one was the first one.

The pilot ran backwards and nobody planned it that way. Week 1 opened on a balloon, and the weeks that followed took in a painting, a museum photograph, a sneaker and an album — objects from a life that had already opened out. Week 6 closes on the earliest thing Halim Flowers ever made: a poetry collection written by hand at twenty-one and twenty-two, mostly in a solitary confinement cell, by a man serving two life sentences with no phone, no visits and no commissary. Every other asset in this pilot was made by someone who had already published a book. This is the book.

It carries the highest heritage score of the six and the cleanest title of the six, and it misses the next tier by a tenth of a point — because in twenty-one years nobody pulled a sales statement. That is not an indictment of the author. It is the ordinary condition of self-published work, and it is the single most repeated finding across all six weeks. Five of the six assets were scored down on the same two dimensions for the same reason: the evidence existed and no one had retrieved it. If there is one sentence to carry out of this series, it is that the gap between what your work is worth and what it can be shown to be worth is almost always a document you already have.

There is a second thing here that the other five assets could not teach. In a law library in a federal penitentiary, an older man named Michael Norwood told a twenty-one-year-old that buying ISBN numbers is what makes you a publishing house. That sentence is the reason SATO Publications exists, and it is functionally the same sentence MADE CX has been writing for six weeks: the registry is what turns the work into property. Norwood was describing the publishing industry's version of a ledger, from inside a prison, in 2003, to a man the state had told would die there. He was right, and Flowers acted on it immediately. Twenty-one years later the ISBN he bought still resolves, and this brief exists because he bought it.

And for buyers: this is the most acquirable object in the pilot. It is not an edition of two or an edition of ten. It is a printed book with a validating identifier, a live retail listing, a second printing, a sole author who owns everything, and a manuscript written in circumstances that a special-collections library would build an exhibition around. The covenant points it at exactly the institutions that should have it — Black cultural archives, carceral education programmes, university special collections. There is no rights holder to negotiate with except the man who wrote it, and he is on the ledger.

He wrote it to prove he had something of value to say.
The registry's only contribution is to put a number next to it.
